Hi,
I have two servers both are oracle 10g with ASM running on RedHat Linux and I want to use transportable tablespace to transfer one tablespace from database say DB1 to DB2. Can anyone tell me the steps involved? is it necessary that I must use RMAN to do this?
Thanks,
GK

In "Database Administrator's Guide", Chapter 8 "Managing Tablespaces", section Transporting Tablespaces Between Databases: A Procedureand Example, it is said:

If either the source or destination is an Automatic Storage Management (ASM) disk group, you can use:

  • ftp to or from the /sys/asm virtual folder in the XML DB repository.
  • The DBMS_FILE_TRANSFER package
  • RMAN

thapush,

Your link is misleading.
It belongs to normal file system and not ASM.

You should not, it can be useful with just the note it is not for ASM.
