Hi,

I'm getting the following messages in alert.log file from last 4 days,

kccrsz: expanded controlfile section 9 from 59671 to 60352 records
requested to grow by 602 record(s); added 3 block(s) of records

What message is this one? Do I've to do anything regarding this?

Thanks...

It's just tell you that control file was extended.
It's an information message.

Hi Gajini

This is just an informative message that new records are added to the "log_history" section of the control files and there are no entries that could be replaced. So the controlfile is automatically expanded.
This feature has come up from Oracle 8.

Thanks...

May I know what causes the control file to expand suddenly in the last 3 days because from past 1 year,I didn't get any alert log message like this in the database...

Why it's happening? What causes it to expand?

Hi gajini

The reasons could be many. As per Oracle it could be due to:

1. A new datafile is added beyond the maxdatafiles limited specified in the control file.
2. If new records are added to the "log_history" section of
the control files and there are no entries that could be replaced.

Note:
The automatic expansion only occurs up to the limit of the "init.ora" parameter "DB_FILES".

Hi,

Manage the Size of Control Files

The main determinants of the size of a control file are the values set for the MAXDATAFILES, MAXLOGFILES, MAXLOGMEMBERS, MAXLOGHISTORY, and MAXINSTANCES parameters in the CREATE DATABASE statement that created the associated database. Increasing the values of these parameters increases the size of a control file of the associated database.
